Recycling & Waste Management
Avoid excess plastic packaging especially when food shopping, always re-use carrier bags and consider using paper bags for fruit & veg.
Buy second-hand items and have household items repaired instead of throwing them out.
Good quality clothes can be sold online or donated to charity shops, older clothes can be taken to clothes/textile banks.
Furniture and household items can be donated to charity or furniture projects, sold or exchanged online (see our listings for more details).
Last but not least, but most important of all, is to reduce your consumption. Think carefully about the things you buy….. Do you really need that extra pair of shoes or the latest must-have?

Each student has 10-12kg of reusable items to dispose of at the end of term. The Student Reuse and Recycling Project aims to increase recycling, encourage reuse and raise awareness of waste reduction amongst the student population. In 2007 we are working with over 50 university halls of residence across London and have diverted over 200 tonnes of waste from landfill this academic year.
