Carnival Queens Go Green

Julie Dutton the Warwickshire based dressmaker has always been careful not to waste materials and encourages her clients to consider altering garments in order to update their wardrobe. This year she has also started to source organic and fair trade textiles.

This summer she altered the Kenilworth carnival queen’s exquisite donated gown to suit her and created the attendants dresses using organic hemp and silk, woven and dyed to ethical standards and added embellishments using the packaging that came with the queen’s dress.

Kenilworth carnival took place on Saturday 4th July and the young people of the carnival party were impressed that recycling, minimal environmental impact and good labour practice were behind the creation of their final
