Green Days For A Spring Weekend
After what seems an endless winter the weather is finally starting to warm up. Why not leave the car at home this weekend and enjoy a low carbon day out with the family. Here are a few ideas to get you out and about this spring…
1. Feel The Fresh Air
Visit your local nature reserve, environmental centre or wildlife trust.
2. Go hug A (cherry) Tree
The Woodland Trust are on the look out for some of the U.K’s oldest and finest cherry trees and are inviting the public to hug (yes, really) any cherry trees they come across and record the info on their national database. Find out more here.
3. Have Fun At Your Local Farm
LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) organise open days, where you can visit your local farm and meet the farmers who grow your food and care for the countryside.
4, Take A Walk Along The Canal
Canal towpaths are often overlooked as havens of wildlife and tranquility. A stroll along one of the many towpaths in our towns and cities are a great way to enjoy the fresh air and outdoors in peaceful surroundings. For walking maps and guides to the U.K’s canals click here
5. Get On Your Bike
What better way to spend a spring weekend than on your bike. The national cycle network now stretches over 10,000 miles throughout the U.K so there is bound to be a traffic free route near to where you live. See www.cycle-routes.org
If your still looking for inspiration why not make a waste free picnic to enjoy at your local park, go boating at a nearby lake or take a train journey to a city or town you’ve never visited before.
