Greener Cooler Cars

We’ve heard of turf on the roof of houses, shops and other buildings, but in Japan this has been taken one step further. A music producer from Okinawa planted a layer of grass on the roof of his car, which 4 months later has grown to a height of 10cm and keeps his car cool! Mitsuji Chinen claims he doesnt need to use his air conditioning with this new form of insulation!

Of course – the seeds weren’t sown directly into the roof of his car.  Chinen put an anti-rust seal on first, followed by a layer of heat and water insulation before the coconut fibre layer which the seeds were sown into, just in case you were tempted to try this at home…
