International Day of Forests 21st March 2022
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21st March as the International Day of Forests to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of forests and forest life. Having lived in Bracknell Forest for a number of years, I came to appreciate the benefits of living and working near trees.
Forests are home to about 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity with over 60,000 types of trees! Approximately 1.6 billion people depend on forests for food, income, shelter and medicine so it is important to note and highlight that millions of hectares of forest are lost each year.
As we look to the future, experts are looking into how forest-based innovations can contribute towards a sustainable lifestyle.
As teachers we believe it’s important to educate our younger generation about the importance of our natural world.
