Kate's Bircher Muesli Recipe: A Great Way To Use Up Those Autumn Apples

If like us you have a glut of eating apples you’re trying to get through, do try this yummy Bircher muesli recipe which is not only tasty but healthy too. The subtle cinnamon taste with the dried fruit and apple is a great pick me up in the morning. It’s prepared the night before so a great breakfast for those who find themselves rushing in the morning.

Bircher muesli was created by a Swiss doctor called Maximilian Bircher-Brenner in 1900 for his patients and has remained popular throughout Switzerland and Germany since.

Ingredients

5 tablespoons of oats

Milk

1 apple (grated)

2 tablespoonfuls of Seeds (pumpkin & sunflower are my favourite)

1 tablespoon of sliced almonds

A tablespoon of raisins

A teaspoon of cinnamon

Fresh fruit (optional)

Method

Measure out the oats into a bowl and cover with milk .

Add the seeds, almonds, grated apple, raisins and cinnamon and add more milk to ensure the ingredients are covered.

Put into the fridge and leave to soak overnight.

Serve with fresh fruit (optional)
